Year 1: Weekly round up

We’ve had a wonderfully busy and productive week in Year 1! This week, we combined our learning with a fun, hands-on activity. The children made sandwiches and then practiced cutting them into halves and quarters. This practical experience helped them understand these important fractions in a real-world context. Our creativity soared as we designed and labelled our pirate ships! The children came up with some fantastic ideas and worked hard on their designs. We are all excited to start building our pirate ships next week. In phonics, we focused on CVCC words (consonant-vowel-consonant-consonant). The children worked on deciphering which letters to use to create words that matched the pictures. This was a little tricky, but they did very well, using their phonics skills to hear each sound. We visited the prayer stations on Wednesday, which were centred around our school value of friendship. It was a thoughtful and reflective time for the children as they considered what friendship means to them and how they can be good friends to others. On Thursday, the children had a fantastic time visiting Year 2 for Transition Day. They explored their new classroom and got a taste of what next year will be like. It was a wonderful experience and helped to ease any anxieties about moving up. Today, we enjoyed a lovely session up in Forest School. The children had the chance to explore nature, participate in outdoor activities, and work on their teamwork skills. It was a great way to end the week.
We look forward to another exciting week ahead!
