Year 1: Weekly round up

We’ve had an exciting and busy week here in Year 1! After our fantastic school trip to the zoo, the children wrote recounts of their favourite parts and the best things they saw or did. We also drew pictures to illustrate the parts we liked most. It was wonderful to see the variety of highlights. Some children loved watching the penguins waddle and swim, while others were fascinated by the playful sealions. Interestingly, some children said their highlight was the fun bus ride to and from the zoo!
In Maths, we’ve been recapping how to tell the time to the hour and half past the hour. We focused on making sure the hands of the clock pointed exactly in the correct places. We discovered that at half past the hour, the hour hand points halfway between the numbers. The children have done a great job mastering this skill!
As part of our topic lessons, we examined photos of the seaside from both the present day and Victorian times. We discussed the differences and similarities. Some things are very different now and some things are only true today. However, things like enjoying ice creams at the seaside are something we’ve always loved, both in the past and today!
Today, the children enjoyed our marble jar treat which was a fun P.J. party with their teddy bears! Our activities included a lively disco in the morning, featuring musical statues and musical bumps. The children also loved having glow sticks for the disco! In the afternoon we watched a Minions movie, which the children chose. We enjoyed the movie complete with popcorn, snacks, and drinks. It’s been a really fun day for everyone!
Next week, we will be finishing off our “Pirates and the Seaside” topic, which has been another popular topic with the children.
